A National Firefighter's Day has not been officially adopted, yet that does not deter fire service personnel throughout the world from pushing for the much supported day to honor firefighters.
Adapted from a popular children's book published in the early 1940s, this PosteretteTM design incorporates an illustration by Ursula Koering. Not only a fixture of book illustration, Koering went on to design coins for the U.S. Mint.
With 1940s design as its inspiration, the stark contrast of black and red mesh with the soft tones of the fire scene. The playful illustration is a contrast to the realities of fire service and its life and death outcome.
There may be no better way to adorn the walls of a firehouse, firefighter's office or home than with a reminder of the day we long to celebrate as "National Firefighter's Day." A great tribute, and perhaps a nudge to get December 15th officially recognized.
